Privacy and Cookie Policy

Updated:

This policy explains what information may be processed when you use dragoncompanion.com, why it is used, which outside services are involved, and the choices available to you.

Summary: you can use the guide without creating an account. Route progress and sheet preferences are stored in your own browser. Hosting, analytics, advertising, and embedded service providers may process technical usage information as described below.

Information processed

Information you provide

If you email support or post a report in the linked community, the applicable email or community provider processes the message, account details you choose to share, and any attachments. Do not include passwords or sensitive account information in a route report.

Technical and usage information

Hosting and measurement services may receive information normally sent by a browser, including IP address, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, event timestamps, and diagnostic data. Dragon Companion uses this information to deliver the site, understand aggregate usage, maintain security, and diagnose errors.

Local browser storage

The interactive map saves the current route step and playback speed under the browser storage keys savedStep and playSpeed. The route sheet saves the chosen column density under sheetDensity. These values remain on your device and allow the same browser to restore your position or preference. They are not game account data and are not synchronized between devices.

You can remove these values by using the map's Reset control, changing the sheet setting, or clearing site data in your browser. Private-browsing sessions may discard them automatically.

Saved characters (dc.saved.v1), codes marked used (dc.codes.used.v1), and your language preference (routeLang) stay in your browser. Marking a code used does not mark it expired for anyone else. Clear site data to remove these preferences. No game account is required.

Community code votes

Active and expired code votes are shared with other visitors. A first-party cookie, dc_code_voter, remembers your anonymous voting identity for up to one year so you can change a vote without adding another. We store vote choices and totals with Upstash Redis, together with keyed hashes of visitor identifiers and network addresses to limit repeated submissions. The voting database does not store raw IP addresses or game account details. Network rate-limit records expire after one hour; vote records remain to maintain community totals. Clearing cookies removes your browser's voting identity but does not withdraw votes already counted.

Missing-code reports use the same anonymous cookie. We accept only a code and its server region. Codes become public after reports from three distinct browser identities and network connections; pending reports are available only to the site operator. Hashed reporting identities are retained for up to 30 days, and submission rate-limit records expire after 24 hours. Unpublished reports expire after 30 days and are removed when the next report is processed. Published codes and report totals remain until moderated. IPv6 addresses on the same network prefix are grouped to prevent repeated submissions from changing device addresses.

Analytics and performance services

The site uses Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics/Insights to understand page usage and technical performance. These services may use cookies or similar technologies and may process the technical information described above. Their processing is governed by their own policies.

Advertising and cookies

Dragon Companion uses Mediavine to display advertising on content pages. Mediavine and other third-party advertising vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver, measure, and protect advertising services.

Depending on your region, consent choices, and advertising settings, ads may be personalized or non-personalized. Advertising providers may process cookie identifiers, IP address, device information, general location, ad interactions, and page context for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention, and reporting.

If additional third-party advertising vendors are enabled, their identities and controls will be disclosed through the site's consent interface or an update to this policy.

External services and links

The site loads or links to services operated by other companies, including Google Fonts, Tailwind CSS, Ko-fi, Discord, Google Analytics, Mediavine, and Vercel. Loading an embedded script or choosing an external link may allow that provider to receive technical request data. Once you leave Dragon Companion, the destination's privacy terms apply.

The resource hub requests news and code updates from our own cached endpoint. This endpoint reads public publisher and community sources; your game account, saved characters, and used-code list are not sent to those sources.

Retention, sharing, and security

Local route preferences remain until you or the browser removes them. Service providers retain analytics, logs, messages, or advertising information according to their configured retention periods and policies. Dragon Companion does not sell personal information. Information may be shared with service providers needed to operate the site, comply with law, protect users or the site, or complete a business transfer.

Reasonable technical measures are used to protect the site, but no Internet service can guarantee absolute security. Email should not be used to send passwords, payment card details, or other highly sensitive information.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis. Browser controls, the advertising links above, and provider-specific privacy tools offer direct ways to exercise common choices.

For a privacy request concerning information controlled by Dragon Companion, email support@dragoncompanion.com. The request may need enough information to identify the relevant communication or record. For data controlled by Google, Vercel, Ko-fi, or Discord, contact that provider directly.

Children and policy changes

The site is a general gaming reference and is not directed to children under the age required to consent to data processing in their country. Dragon Companion does not knowingly request personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted personal information can contact support to request review and deletion.

This policy may change when site features, providers, or legal requirements change. The updated date at the top will be revised when material changes are published.
